Theresia Bothe is a cosmopolitan. She was born in Canada to Irish and German parents, and grew up in Tepoztán, Mexico. As a child she developed a passion for singing, particularly popular and traditional music. She began her voice studies at the Escuela Nacional de Música in Mexico City with Alfredo Mendoza. Her particular interests were the classical and early baroque repertoires. She continued her studies in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, with Mary Nichols (voice) and Nigel North (lute); in the Conservatory of Music in Trossingen, Germany, with Richard Wistreich (voice) and Rolf Lislevand (lute) and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, the world renown institute of early music in Basel, Switzerland, with Ulrich Messthaler (voice) and Peter Croton (lute). She has taken part in many courses and projects with artists such as E.Kirkby, E.Tubb, A.Rooley, J.Christensen, H.Smith, etc. She has performed frequently as a soloist and in ensembles in Mexico and throughout Europe. She also plays guitar and lute and performs concerts alone interpreting a variety of musical stiles. Theresia Bothe has been teaching for many years in Basel and at the Music School in Rheinfelden. She has great interest in creating and conducting choirs, especially a capella. Her work on projects to integrate music into individual efforts or diverse human rights organizations that help people in need, is a deeply settled principle in her life. She also loves drawing, writing and taking photos as means of expression.
